21st Century Commuter
I took this photo on my old pocket-sized Pentax Optio S4 (since retired) last March whilst travelling home from the Guardian Changing Media Summit on the Northern Line. I placed the camera on the floor of the tube carriage and used the auto-timer. The original image was in colour but I converted it to black and white to place greater emphasis on the composition and draw attention to the contrast between the overhead lighting and my outline, particularly the halo effect around the hands and shoulders. Whilst my face isn't fully visible, the pose and small details (iPod headphone wire, cufflinks, jeans etc.) reveal much about me and possibly something of our times.
