Whilst visiting India recently there were many photo opportunities but capturing this show in a way that portrayed the movement and excitement was probably the most demanding. It wasn't enough to just record this, for me the image had to hold its own story. I left the my d200 set to 100 ISO because I needed low sensitivity so the burning coals didn't burn out especially at the f1.4 setting I used to soften an otherwise distracting background. A slow shutter speed was chosen (.4) to capture the movement of the spinning hot coals, finally a low power pop of flash just to lift the man out of the background. I think s 2nd flash off camera behind the man creating a halo round him would lift him a little more from the background? But this was India and I was traveling lite (1 camera, 2 lenses, 1 flash)

This photo has been digitally retouched.

Saturated the colours (d200 can be a bit flat OOC) and burned the edges a little.
