Self-Portrait

Think of an iconic portrait, an image that embodies the essence of a person, an idea or the spirit of the times.

Then think "What if that person was me?"

Think photos that get under a person’s skin, that reveal the intimate, profound and unexpected. This is your first project challenge – the art of the self-portrait.

The art of the self-portrait is very personal, you have not only got to think about the technicalities of the shot, but also how you will portray yourself. No mean feat!

This shot was taken in 6 minutes......a bit of fun as self portraits are meant not to be taken seriously........!!!! I don't want to change anything as it was spur of the moment thing and on working at f.2.5 to get the bits in focus that I did - it would be very hard to recreate - an accident - yes - ! Perhaps a bit of touching up where my make up is smudged but that contrasts with the detail of the Chanel lipstick being so precise. The brooch in the foreground with the design being echoed by my hair........could I recreate this?....yes - but not in 6 minutes....!

a purely spontaneous photo at Bestival last year. On neopan 1600, didn't think it would expose as well as it did though it could be bettered.

This was part of my PaD 365 project and I was running out of time. Ideally I was looking for a red phone box that was lit up...but suddenly thought of this idea. I believe this was inspired by a photo on flickr but I can't remember who. My first shot was discarded as you could see right up my t-shirt to my stomach and no-one needs to see this!

i origionally shot this image with a replica Gun, after a few shots i started to have a break, i whipped out a banana, and all i could think was the image created by Banksy of pulp Fictions jon Travolta and Samual Jackson, with the bananas as guns. what a good idea!
